How Long Does the LASIK Procedure Take?
LASIK is a simple procedure to explain and likewise takes a relatively short time to perform. The entire LASIK procedure takes about 15 minutes per eye, during which a flap is created by a semi-circular incision on the surface of the eye.
The flap is folded back and the laser is used to reshape the cornea, either to flatten it to correct nearsightedness or create a slope to correct farsightedness. The actual time that the laser takes to make this correction is typically less than a minute for each eye.
Your entire LASIK appointment will likely require less than an hour to complete with the actual procedure comprising about 30 minutes. After the procedure has been performed, Dr. Carter will examine your eyes to ensure that they should heal appropriately, and may give instructions on caring for your eyes while they heal, as well as set a follow up appointment.
Alternative Surgeries
If you are undergoing an alternative to LASIK, the amount of time may vary greatly from that required by LASIK. Each procedure is unique and while several of them use lasers much like LASIK, either to create a flap or to correct the shape of the cornea, the preparation or parts of the procedure may vary.
